DelVA, together with future residents, communities and building partners, has created a courtyard garden of Heel Europa, a life care complex, in Genuahaven, Pilmerlund, the Netherlands. This is a special complex of elderly people or dependants who are invested by young start-ups, and child care facilities also have a place in the whole system.

The closed garden is an active centre for the entire Weidevennen community and is open only to the public during the day. Young adults, dementia patients, and people with poor living abilities relax through recreational activities such as throwing balls, gardening, or just sitting on the terrace of a restaurant in the garden. This complex serves as a good hub between the newly built area in Wade Vinnan and the historic city centre of Pilmerlund. The walkway linking the two physical buildings runs through the entire public garden.

After careful design and positioning of the walking route, a quiet space was created beside the busy place. The basis of the design is to engage residents in activities and then keep them active. This also makes it possible for generations to have spontaneous and valuable contacts. The garden has its own greenhouse, bird house, petal courtyard, chessboard, sports and entertainment opportunities, as well as a large plant garden.

The design provides many functions for the courtyard, such as throwing area, open-air chess, garden, vegetable garden, terrace and seating area. In addition, the design also provides space that can be filled by the residents themselves. Residents can use the hedge to decide for themselves what is needed and where it should be in the garden. In this process, DELVA Landscape Company organized various activities to involve the residents of nearby schools. Therefore, we can say that the design is developed in cooperation with future residents.
